INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
THE RESISTANCE OF SHADOWS
Memory and Ansence of Dispersed Heritage
January 21–23, 2026
Burgos & Online
international
congress
Within the framework of the Nostra et Mundi project, Burgos hosted, from 21 to 23 January 2026, an international congress devoted to reflecting on the fate of art and cultural memory when they are separated from their original context. This event brought together specialists from both national and international spheres with the aim of analysing the trajectory, transformation, and meaning of artworks and heritage assets that, at some point in their history, were displaced from their place of origin.
The congress focused on the idea that these objects, beyond their physical relocation, form part of a shared heritage that must be understood and valued from multiple perspectives. Discussions addressed how this dispersed heritage has influenced cultural identity, its conservation, and the recognition of its roots.
The congress adopted a hybrid format: in person at the University of Burgos and online through the congress’s official platform.

You can access the recordings of the lectures and the paper presentations on the Congress Platform.
